How do you play slots on mobile?
Playing slots on mobile might seem complicated, with paylines scrambling along the screen and confusing bonus rounds – but they’re actually pretty simple to play.
While you might be familiar with the one payline format when playing fruit machines in the pub, paylines on mobile slots work a little differently. Most modern slots come with 20 paylines, which are essentially places where you can land combinations of symbols. Essentially, the more lines, the easier it is to land combinations.
The paytable highlights everything you need to know about the game, from which symbols pay what, to the different bonuses available. You’ll also find out which symbols trigger bonuses (scatter) and the wild symbol, which replaces any other in-game symbol.
Here you can select how much you would like to bet per spin, which can be subdivided into bet per line – so if you have 20 active paylines at 10p per line, the cost per spin will be £2.
Online slot symbols
There are two main symbols in slot games, wilds & scatters:
Wilds replace any other symbol in the game, apart from the scatter symbol, and make linking up combinations a lot easier. Wild wins generally pay the highest possible win on any payline. In some titles, they can act differently. For example, some stick to the reels while some are stacked, which means they come in packs of two or more.
Scatters truly add excitement to slots – they are generally responsible for awarding free spins and activating bonus rounds. Generally, by landing three or more scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, you’ll trigger the bonus feature.
Mobile Slot games and volatility
It’s always a good idea to check the volatility of the slot game you’re playing to determine how often it will payout. Slot games work in different ways – whether that’s to do with the size of the payouts, or frequency of wins. Essentially, slots are separated into three categories: high, medium and low.
High volatility slots pay out less often, but in higher amounts; when you win, you win big. Lower volatility games on the other hand pay often, but generally in smaller amounts. These games are great for those with smaller bankrolls, or are looking to play for longer. Medium volatility slots fall in-between.
If you’re unsure whether or not a slot is volatile, you can check the paytable and if prizes are quite high – it’s generally a slot with low volatility.
