Play’n GO presents the 30 paylines slot based on the British metal band ‘Demon’.
One can be excused for not having known that ‘Demon’ was the name of a new wave British heavy metal 80s band.
What’s more, they were considered an important part of this movement alongside bands like Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Def Leppard. ‘Demon’ is a very high volatility slot from Play’n GO unleashed on 5-reels and 30 paylines. The slot features wilds, Helluva Night Extra Spins, Portal to Hell Spins with up to 16x win multiplier. The maximum payout is 5,000x total bet! It has an RTP of 96.51%.
Play’n GO and the band Demon collaborated to produce this slot of the same name. This is part of the reason we can find no less than seven of their songs which we can select from a playlist. The symbols include vocalist Dave Hill, a crucifix stained in blood, a gargoyle, vine-covered statue and face-removing demon. Finally, the 10 through to ace poker symbols are the lowest-value symbols. The slot has a dark and scarier atmosphere.
The slot has high volatility and RTP of 96.51%.
Satanic Wild Mask
A goat’s head satanic mask acts as a wild symbol that replaces all the other symbols except the wild amulets. When appearing in the middle of the pentagram (centre position), all the vocalist symbols transform into wild masks. Collect 1.33x, 3.33x or 16.67x total bet when it creates an exclusive payline.
One Helluva Night Extra spins
A wild amulet can turn up on the 1st and the 5th reels. When the wild mask lands in the top, centre or bottom space of the third reel then 6, 11 or 6 extra spins are awarded. A random win multiplier value is applied on each round which multiplies the win by 2x, 3x, 5x or 8x.
Highlights of the game include wild masks, Helluva Night Extra spins and Portal to Hell Spins.
Portal to Hell Spins
The Portal to Hell Spins feature is activated when wild amulets appear on the 1st and 5th reels. It awards anywhere from 4 to 8 spins. If the Wild Mask lands on the third reel then between 6 and 10 Hell Spins are awarded. By landing in the centre position of the third reel, the Win Multiplier doubles for a maximum possible value of 16x. Portal to Hell Spins can be re-triggered.
Rock band slots
I don’t know of many slot machines that pay tribute to bands. Apart from the hard rock band Black Mamba slot and the heavy metal band Saxon slot, I only know Motörhead and Guns n’ Roses both from NetEnt and it’s about time I dug deeper into the theme.
Demon opinion: Scary payouts for the wrong reasons
If I have to be completely honest, I never heard of this English rock band and had to Google them ahead of this review. From what I read online, it would seem that I wasn’t the only one. Never-the-less, I liked what Play’n GO did with the artwork, soundtrack and sound effects. I could listen to up to 8 songs from this group which I thought were pretty good!
The features frequently trigger, which I liked and kept me engaged, but I found the payouts came nowhere near their advertised potential. For example, the best I could do after hundreds of spins was 21x total bet on a spin – a far cry from 5,000x! It was not until the extra spins where the help of multipliers bumped up my winnings considerably higher. Here, my best win was 294x total bet, which is a large win, but I, unfortunately, needed to wait until I triggered the extra spins to achieve it.
I know that this is a very high volatility slot but couldn’t help feeling that Play’n GO forgot that high risk should also mean high reward potential. It seemed that most of the effort went into the collaboration with the band while payouts maybe took a backseat. If one really likes high volatility, I would suggest Book of Dead based on an ancient Egyptian theme from Play’n GO instead.
