So what does the Ankh have to do with Anubis? Well, it turns out that most Egyptian gods were portrayed with or near an ankh. The ankh is the symbol of life, and the gods were the givers of life. So even though Anubis was the god of death, he also had the power to give life.

At first sight, the game setting behind the slots takes us back to ancient Egypt. The design is quite impressive. When you thought you were done admiring the pyramids, the obelisks and the palm trees, you realise that the boats are actually moving around on the water and sailing up and down the Nile. So far, so good…

Until you see the rockets flying through the air and you realise that there seems to be a giant moon or planet in the sky. It’s not that the futuristic elements are not well designed, but it would be nice to have some explanation for them. Maybe it’s a hit at the ancient astronauts theory that claims that aliens came to earth in ancient times.

Regardless, while the boats move smoothly over the water, I find the rockets a bit distracting when they suddenly cut across the screen. 

The Ankh of Anubis music is really epic without being overwhelming. I really enjoyed the steady rhythm section. What I didn’t appreciate as much were the sound effects. They were a bit too intense for me, and I feel they distract from the gameplay.
