Wild Rails : Horizontal reel tracks
Wild Rails slot represents a first for Play’n GO because it is the first horizontal reel slot from this developer. What this means is that the reels spin horizontally rather than vertically. Effectively, it makes no difference to the casino game, but it suits the theme nicely. That’s because each space on the reels contains a train cart holding a symbol. A spinning reel means that a motor unit pulls the old symbols off and the new symbols onto the spaces.
Using a bit of nifty artwork, the tracks are on top of four stacked bridges which extend out from the side of one rock face and into the rock face of the opposing side. In the background we can see clouds and the formation of birds for a bit of dramatic effect. The slot chugs along brilliantly with a perky tune.

The Wild Trains
As mentioned previously, the horizontal reels are spun by virtue of trains which pull the old symbols off and the new symbols back onto their spaces. On every spin there is a chance that up to 4 wild trains stop on the reels carrying up to 5 wild train cabins. The second feature of the slot is triggered by golden train scatter symbols which may appear on any of the reels. It is possible to trigger 5, 7 or 10 free spins with combinations of 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols.

Innovative design but short on features
When it comes to high volatility slots, Play’n GO is probably not the first developer that comes to mind. That’s because developers like Microgaming and Netent have done a particularly good job in releasing games with staying power. Play’n GO’s Wild Rails is a high volatility slot but fails to live up to the hype of other comparable slots.
There is no arguing against the creativity in its design but the shortage of features left me feeling a little underwhelmed relative to other similar games. Arguably, with 30 paylines the need for a lot of features is not there, but this comes at the expense of the fun factor.
