A design that’s out of this world
It’s important to give credit where it is due. In the case of Back To Venus, all the credit is due to the design. The richly animated world of this 3D slot is kept neatly preened and pruned, with every ounce of attention paid to the most minute details.
The background is a lush, green garden where a Venusian spaceship has just landed. Coming into the foreground, we see a mutant Venus fly trap (an obvious visual pun) with a mouthful of teeth, wrapping its vines around the controls bobbing its head as the reels spin.
All the effort has gone into the visual design, leaving the sound effects as neglected as a garden full of weeds.
The low-paying symbols are a simple flush of J-A. This leaves us with six thematic high-paying symbols: crop circles, extra-terrestrial mushrooms, a barn invaded by monster vines, a UFO abducting a cow, the Venus flytrap and a quirky farmer in a spacesuit. As far as special symbols go, there is an Asteroid wild and a Rocket Ship scatter.
The Back To Venus slot has a standard format of 5 reels with 3 rows, and a conservative 25 paylines. Unfortunately, the features are not enough to make up for the stale experience that this game provides.
Back To Venus features
|Prickly sticky and respin||Every time a spin has no winning combinations, a symbol may randomly become sticky and stay fixed for a respin.|
|Sticky Asteroid Wilds||The wild symbol remains sticky for 2 spins after landing.|
|Flowering wild boost||Non-winning spins may see the reels light up with a flowering wild symbol, increasing the chances of landing Asteroid Wilds in the next spin.|
|Rocket free spins||Three scatter symbols trigger 10 free spins with extra sticky wilds. Four scatters give you a chance of getting multiplier wilds.|

Back To Venus: incredible design but disappointing gameplay
Betsoft’s latest video slot, Back To Venus, is the sequel to the original It Came From Venus game. This time, the alien plants are trying to get back home by riding the Rocket Ship Respins!
As with all games by this developer, the focus is on the adventurous theme and the high-quality design. This slot has an alien invasion story set in a flowery garden, complete with venus fly traps, crop circles and abducted barn animals! All in all, it’s quite compelling.
Unfortunately, the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. And I really do mean a lot. Although the animation is dynamic, it fails to live up to the level of the design. In spite of having some relatively interesting features, it makes for a bland and flavourless gaming experience. That said, it’s worth taking it for a spin if you want to discover Betsoft’s signature style and get a taste of their games.
