Video game slots will change online casinos in 2020

A new generation of slot games is making waves at online casinos, and it’s safe to say that it’s going to change everything. I’m talking about a whole new type of online slot machines: video game slots, inspired by classic arcades, combat RPGs and first-person shooters.

Some of these games are already available to play on mobile devices. Others were released in land-based casinos in Las Vegas and other important markets, but they show great promise for potential online versions.

All of these games were major attractions at the ICE 2020 convention in London. Our team tried them all out and spoke to developers in order to get the best and most up-to-date information for our readers.

Some of these games are so groundbreaking that we’re already working on focused reviews and free demos that you can play to start testing them before they hit the market and you play for real money.

The key takeaway is that a new generation of games is coming for a new generation of players.

If you grew up with classic arcade games like Street Fighter, combat RPGs like World of Warcraft, and first-person shooters from Duck Hunter to Dead or Alive, you’ll be just as excited as we were to take these slots for a spin!

Mobile slots for video game lovers

Our first two video game slots have radically changed the concept of online slots both in terms of design and gameplay. But the mechanics remain the same as those of classic slots: spins generate totally random results.

The UK Gambling Commission does not allow skill-based games in land-based or online casinos.

So these games will be important for UK players, as they’re the ones most easily available.

They’re also mobile-first games produced with the latest HTML5 technology. So they’re perfectly mobile optimised to play from your Android or iOS (iPhone and iPad) device.

Dungeon – Immortal Evil: an RPG-inspired slot

Evo Gaming launched the world’s first-ever RPG slot this month, with Dungeon – Immortal Evil.

This game is so revolutionary that it’s hard to describe it in just a few paragraphs. That’s why we published an in-depth review the day after we sampled the demo, where you can find all the detailed information.

The key takeaway is this: the gameplay is exactly like that of a combat RPG. The slots are the waves of enemies, the spins are the combat, and wins and losses are completely random. The game has everything you’d expect to see: a beautiful 3D fantasy world, a detailed storyline, cinematic cut sequences, special events and bonuses and even a big final boss.

Playing this slot on mobile is a whole different experience: you slide your finger across the screen like in classic mobile game apps to make the character run and jump.

This is hands-down my favourite game of the year so far, and it’s bound to make your list as well.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Slot

Street Fighter II slot By NEtent

NetEnt announced the release of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Slot for May 21st of this year.

The sneak peak we got of it has really got our hopes up. This game will take you back to the classic in every level imaginable. Even the visual design evokes the old-style monitors of the arcade machines.

You get to choose a character and make them fight through the tournament like you used to with the arcade game.

The characters’ fight moves are defined by the results of the slots. You even get to batter background objects, like the cars!

Stay tuned for our upcoming review of the Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Slot!

Land-based video game slots

These next games stood out for their innovative concepts and gameplay.

They’re both skill-based games, so unfortunately, they won’t be available in the UK anytime soon. But it’s good to take a look at them just to have an idea of where video slots are headed in the future.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we started seeing more games like these moving online sooner rather than later.

Fortunes of The Brave – console slot

The Fortunes of The Brave slot by IGT is a skill-based console slot with a combat bonus game component.

You spin slots and advance through levels as you pick up wins. With each new level, the game moves to a dungeon where the hero fights wave after wave of enemies. The longer you last in the fight and the more points you collect, the better your chances for big wins during the next slot stage.

The results of the skill-based combat mode influence the slot’s random-number-generator (RNG).

What’s more, as you progress through the game, you can select different bonus features in the form of weapons and armour upgrades. You also increase your combat skills with magic powers.

So the more you play, the more you increase your chances of success.

After winning enough in spins to reach higher levels, the game takes the hero (that’s you!) to a fantasy world where you use a console controller to fight waves of evil monsters using different weapons and magic powers. Your success in the combat stages will influence the results of the spins in the following stages.

This game is currently being tested in land-based casinos. But it has obvious potential for a mobile slot.

This concept is bound to pick up traction and become a new standard for all sorts of slot game developers.

Lucked & Loaded – first-person shooter

Remember the classic Nintendo games Wild Gunman and Duck Hunt? Well, what if you combined it with Dead or Alive to make a casino game? Because that’s what Synergy Blue did to come up with Lucked and Loaded.

Wild Gunman and Duck Hunt

The game is a first-person shooter that takes you through a Wild West saloon. Except instead of cowboys, the baddies are aliens.

You have to shoot your way through the game with a light-gun shooter that took us back to the days of the NES Zapper. It’s just that here, every shot is a wager, and your accuracy influences the results of the spins.

I can’t wait to see a game like this available to play online. And just imagine what we could do with a good multiplayer mode!
