Netflix to launch a ‘Squid Game’ slot machine
The growth of the online casino market has finally made its way to Netflix, the US streaming giant, as it prepares to launch a Squid Game slot. The slot will be developed by Light & Wonder and is inspired by the Korean series “Squid Game”. This new slot game is reminiscent of the deadly challenges we see the contestants participate in in the series, and is the first gamble Netflix takes in the casino world.
After diversifying its business into the games (Netflix Games) and themed restaurants industries, this is the brand’s first product licensing agreement in the casino and gambling industry!

The success of ‘Squid Game’
After its release in December 2020, no one could hold back the success of the South Korean series “Squid Game” created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix, a survival drama which gives childrens’ games a haunting twist.
According to the platform, the series remains its biggest foreign series debut in history, reaching 111 million global accounts in its first 17 days on the service.
The success of the series was so big that Netflix launched, in September, a reality show inspired by the “Squid Game” series itself. The program will pay $4.56 million to the winner. But, to win, the participant will have to compete with 455 other competitors, who will perform challenges similar to those in the “Squid Game” series,… but less deadly.
In the series, participants also compete for a cash prize to pay off a large debt. Most disturbing, those who lose are not only eliminated, but die brutally and without ceremony. According to Netflix, in the reality show, “the worst thing that can happen is going home empty-handed”.
The creation of the Slot Machine by Light & Wonder
The next step to ride the wave of the “Squid Game” success was the creation of a slot machine inspired by the plot.
All the content of the machines will be similar to the series, from the characters to the challenges that exist in “Squid Game”, such as “Red Light, Green Light”, “Tug-of-war” and “Glass Tile”, which will make part of the customisation of machines.
Despite the direct inspiration, the essence of the slot machine will be preserved, and the “Squid Game” theme will be adapted to the typical slot machine, with cast characters as the symbols you need to line up along the reels.
The game is scheduled to hit casinos in 2024 and will have a maximum jackpot of between $200,000 and $400,000. The Light & Wonder machine features a huge 75-inch vertical curved screen, with 600,000 individual micro-LED pixels.

If you’re wondering about Squid Game season 2, then yes – the game will arrive before Season 2 is out. But don’t worry, Season 2 of Squid Games is already being filmed, with part of the cast of Squid Games season 1. The new production should be aired in 2025 on Netflix.
